Seeing the good and needed work being done by veteran diplomats and analysts such as Paul Goble and regional bloggers such as Nikolai Holmov, I was inspired to create a blog specifically for the analysis of processes in Latvia - my homeland. Latvia is the middle of the three Baltic states, between Lithuania to the south and Estonia to the north.
Those without the time to dig deep into Latvian politics, history, and the characters that are involved should be forgiven if they don't pick up on various subtleties when researching my country. This is what I will try to do - give the reader a nuanced view through the looking-glass on various socio-political and economic processes in Latvia, with special emphasis on relations with Russia and that neighbouring country's influence here. I will try to comment insightfully on various news events, phenomena, and processes of interest, and hopefully provide you, the reader, with both a more detailed as well as at the same time broader look at this country.
